  • Day 0 – Gloucester to Singapore

The A380 (800) is enormous and ugly. And it is very quiet. It rocks a bit under certain conditions, but otherwise it is a good economy class flight.

Plenty of films and games on the entertainment system and we all sleep shortly after dark. Emma gets sick in the last 2 hours. I think the 12 hour flight is a little too much for her and she needs a bed.

  • Preparations

After booking the flights you are committed. The money has been spent and there is no way back. Pull little boys from under the doctors table so they can be vaccinated, buy mosquito repellent, water sterilising drink bottles, jungle socks and trousers and books. Book the hotels and pray that the reservation sticks. Worry about the amount of stuff you want to carry in the tropical heat. Do we have clothes to go into Raffles?

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner still catches fire but the A380 hasn’t had any exploding engines for a while. Has the smog lifted yet from Singapore and Borneo? Do we bring face masks?

Of course nothing good happens before departure. Daddy breaks his toe, Alex tries to poke his eye out. But none of these seem to be show stoppers.

Jane has now also booked the Singapore zoo trips as well as some trips in Borneo.

Update: A terror threat! About time for one of those.
